John R Durkie was born in Dundee. His home address was 21 Plasturton Avenue, Cardiff. In 1915 he was the Master of the Cardiff Registered Canford Chine, a 2000 ton foreign going steam cargo ship employed between Barry and Oran in Algeria, North Africa. Deaths at Sea reports that he died in Quebec, Canada from pneumonia.
