More about Stephen Thompson
tephen Thompson was born in Woolwich, London and was employed as a Shop Boy when he joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in 1907. He was the husband of Mrs Catherine Thomson of 36 Brown Street, Dundee. After initial Naval training at HMS Ganges at Shotley in Suffolk he served in HM Ships Cochrane, Indomitable, Dido, Shannon, Vulcan, Goshawk, Maidstone and Inflexible which he joined in September 1916. Stephen Thompson died from Meningitis whilst on the books of HMS Pembroke 1, the Naval Barracks at Chatham in Kent and also the accounting base for auxiliary patrol ships. As he is buried in the Dundee Eastern Necropolis it has to be assumed that he died onboard a small patrol vessel in or near Dundee. He shares a headstone with Denis Tucker below and J H Gardiner above.
Stephen shares a grave with Cook John Henry Gardiner, H.M. Yacht “Jason” who died 3/2/1916, and Seaman Denis Tucker, H.M. Drifter “Dover” who died 26/8/1916.
