The Ambulance Train

For the first part of 1917 Susan was posted to work on an Ambulance Train ferrying injured and sick men to base hospitals and the port. The train could carry as many as 500 patients, many of whom were either helpless or in a critical condition. Most of the men came aboard the train still in their uniforms. Much of the journey would involve continuing to treat the men including getting them out of their filthy uniforms.
