David Galloway   Lieutenant-Commander   Nelson Battalion R.N.D.

DUNDEE MAN’S RAPID PROMOTION.

FROM ORDINARY SEAMAN TO LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER.

Lieutenant-Commander David Galloway has secured rapid promotion since he joined the Royal Naval Division as an ordinary seaman.

Lieutenant-Commander Galloway, who is a son of Mr Archibald Galloway, retired insurance agent, 77 Albert Street, Dundee, joined the Naval Reserve in September 1914, and, although he had no previous knowledge of military or naval matters, he set himself with his usual assiduity to equip himself thoroughly for his new duties.  He sat a number of examinations, in all of which he took a high place, and he has risen step by step through his own ability, and recently he was gazetted lieutenant-commander.  He is 26 years of age, and prior to enlisting was Burgh Surveyor at Inverkeithing.  He was educated at Harris Academy, completed his indentures as an architect with Messrs Gauldie & Hardie, Dundee and afterwards passed as a civil engineer.  His many friends in Dundee and Fifeshire will learn of his promotion with satisfaction.
