More about George Louis Yule

George was the brother of Signaller Victor Davidson Yule, Clyde Z/7978, H.M.S. Laurentic, who died 25.01.1917, when the Laurentic was torpedoed and sunk by German Submarine UB-40.

George was mentioned in Despatches of 7th Apr 1918, London Gazette dated 21.5.18 (he was Brigade Intelligence Officer attached to 26th Brigade HQ), and LG of 26.7.18 (MC – he was with the 8th Battalion Black Watch when he received his MC) for ‘Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  When sent forward to clear up an obscure situation, he encountered an enemy patrol, which he drove off, bringing back useful information,  Later, he rallied some 50 stragglers and held a position for several hours.’
